GOALS:
- Increase student usage of the media center.
- Make literacy and the media center more accessible through technology.
METHODS
INCREASED USAGE
- Change the physical space arrangement of the media center.
- Have all seating in one area instead of in parts.
- Create book displays to encourage reading.
- Display staff picks for reading material.
- Focus on student-centered experience.
- Engage in positive interactions with kids- talk about books and their lives.
- Smile and be happy!
- Employ positive redirection of disruptive behavior as first option.
- Establish student-friendly policies.
- Allow students to check out books if they don't have an ID (but know ID# that can be verified through Infinite Campus)
- Allow kids with fines to check out books if their books have been returned.
TECHNOLOGY ACCESSIBILITY
- Develop a fully functioning web page that works in coordination with the district web page.
- Revise and update the Destiny catalog page for finding housed media resources.
- Use Twitter and Facebook to promote literacy and media center events/activities.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THE GOALS HAVE BEEN MET?
USAGE
- Circulation/book check-out rates are nearly twice what they were in the previous year.
- Increased number of book talks requested by staff and students.
- Increased interactions with Language Arts classrooms.
TECHNOLOGY
- Usage data via Twitter, Facebook, Destiny, and web page (Favorites, Retweets, Likes, hits, page views, etc.
- Circulation data, teacher interactions, and community interaction counts should reflect interest and activity.
